My life has been affected by what I have seen and to pretend that it has not is not being truthful. When you have the urge to dig into the world of the dead, tread carefully as you may find your self haunted for the rest of your life.

The night was a good laugh when a few friends came around for dinner.

The subject came around to ghosts and such like as it always does in my house. Paul who is always pushing for proof, thought it would be a good laugh too turn a glass on the table upside down and say the usual "is there anyone there" I have warned him before about doing that sort of thing in my house, as I do a lot of research and my house has became a sort of hot spot for supernatural activity. so when Paul done this I was not amused.

"Chill out" said Paul "it was only a bit of fun" As I held my breath waiting for a response to his request, I was relieved that nothing happened.

After about 20 minutes we were all jumped when the up-turned glass slid of the table and smashed,along with a growling voice that clearly said "fuck you" to say it came as a shock to my friends was a understatement, What was that? amongst a few of their choice comments.

I explained by telling them that Paul had attracted one of the worse types of ghosts to have and it's not happy. A few more things got shoved around with a few deep growls as if it came from the depths of hell. " O.K. how are you doing that David?" said Paul, hoping for me to say I was doing it. You asked a question Paul and he gave you the answer. He is here and you are annoying him. Whose him? Someone that is coming back and forth between the living and the dead.

This type of ghost is always angry, for they are looking for peace and can not get it. The dinner party became a bit tense and I could see they wanted to go home as things had became a bit to real for them, I in the other hand was use to this type of child like temper from ghosts and it did not bother me.

Paul phoned me a few times after that night to say funny things have been going on in his house and he was scared. This is one of the problems you can have when you provoke a ghost, it will often follow you home and pester the life out of you. I told him to treat it like an unruly child and tell it to go back from where it comes from. This did not help him and things kept going on for months until I went over to his house to tell it to go. That done the trick and he was relieved to see the back of it. He had a bit more respect in my house after that.

If you are not prepared to be haunted do not mess around with it. I can not stress that point enough to you. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. The effect of a poltergeist can be devastating to your family. The poltergeist or ghosts will appear when you lease expect them too and do not care if you are young or old, male or female. These type of poltergeist are not the same as your ghost of a loved one, these poltergeist could be years old and none of their family are left in the living world and canot understand why they are not with their family. They will take this out on you for as long as you permit it.

To get rid of such poltergeist you must be firm and show no fear, and I mean no fear as they know if you are scared and just saying you have no fear. With a bit of time of forcing the point that they are not welcomed you should be able to get rid of it. The whole time you have a ghost in your house it can attract more, as your house becomes a magnet for supernatural powers, with not enough control you can be over-run by these

manifestations and life will be hard trying to come to terms with these poltergeist or ghosts. I have a constant fight with these ghosts due to the work I do and the big attraction I give out to them.

When people think that it would be good to be in the "Ghost Business" tell them to think again, I have been attacked, abused, swore at and had the fear of God put in me, and fun does not come to mind. I will tell you what happened to me some years ago when I started to go to peoples houses in order to help them with hauntings.

I received a call about a young family in Upton, Northamptonshire that had a poltergeist giving them abuse by throwing things at them, banging doors, shoving them around and in general giving them a hard time.

When I arrived I could see that they were having a bad time. Their eyes had dark rings around them, they were always looking around them and would jump at the slightest noise, no matter if it was from this world or not. Wendy poured me a cup of tea as George questioned me about what I could do to help. I tried to tell them that I will remove these poltergeist from their home. They had a young girl asleep in her bedroom and they had a constant camera fixed on her as this poltergeist had picked her up and thrown her in her room. Lucky for them she was not harmed, but the "what if" had been driving them mad in case it happened again.

The spare bedroom seem to harness some negative energy and was confirmed by George saying that they no longer use that room as it seemed like more activity was going on in that room. A poltergeist will, and it will seem funny to you, try and make themselves at home by claiming a room.

Clearly as I was standing in their room the poltergeist let me know they were not happy by brushing my left shoulder. ( I will tell you the meaning of this further on in this page) Then I could feel a pull in the pit of my stomach as I was thrown across the room, I got back up and tried to tell them to leave, with that came a slap across the face, now this was something I did not expect or had came across before. The voice of about 3 ghosts or poltergeist talked all at once but being very clear on their demands by saying "leave us alone or you will be with us forever" now I never heard of ghosts/poltergeist giving out threats before. I stood my ground and told them to leave as they were not welcomed in this house or in this world, the shock of being griped around the throat and being pushed against the wall had me nearly wanting to run out of the house.

I was now in danger as I was scared and they knew that, it made it easy for them to take control and force me out. No matter what I tried it had no effect on them and the violence got to a stage were I thought my life is in danger. When I went/ran downstairs I could see the fear on Wendy and George's faces. The tea that Wendy gave me was welcomed but I seemed to have made a complete mess off things as they seem to be now taunting us and throwing things around as if they owned the house which they did.

As I tried to pull myself together the thoughts of what happened kept going through my mind would they have killed me if I had not went out of the room? What I did know was that I had to go back in there or I would be finished in what I do. It was hard to go back in but it had to be done.

Walking through the door I was grabbed by the arm and flung against the wall, once again I was chocked by a hand and threatened, this time I kept calm and demanded that they leave, I was given an even more intense attack and the voices even more intense with "We will kill you!"

The Fight went on for 30 minutes then nothing. Going back down stairs I could feel I was hurt and George asked if I was O.K. I only had finger mark brusing around my neck. It was quite but I could still feel they were around and just waiting for me to go. I told George and Wendy that I would come back the next night as they were not gone.

It had taken 5 nights for to rid the house of the most dangerous manifestations I had ever encountered, they moved home shortly afterwards and said that nothing had reappeared since I left or since they moved home.

So you now know that poltergeist can harm you and are one of the worse to remove from your house.

Will you ever encounter a poltergeist like that? You can be assured that it is very, very rare to come across one that will do you harm, and if you do, get help quick, How far they could go I cant tell, because before that encounter I would have said they wont hurt you at all.

That is it i thought as my keys disappeared again for the forth time in a week. Everybody comes across this from time to time and think that they are just being careless again, what is more likely and happens more often than not is a poltergeist is having a bit of fun with you, this type of poltergeist is harmless and will only prank you every now and then and is happy just to stick to that.

When it gets a bit more than this a quick telling off to the poltergeist will stop it in it's track as it is now aware that you know they are at work in your house and you are not going to stand for their nonsense. Other tricks they play is spilling things and laugh as you blame the pet or child for being careless. Pets though can be a threat to all ghosts as they seem sensitive to their presence, and spoil their fun. Dogs is a good thing to have if you do not want supernatural going on's in your house. It is usually enough to send them packing to another house.

I have contacted you to let you know about my encounter with a poltergeist. It always play's up when I have guests and tries to show off in front of them, the more we try to ignore them the worse they get. have you got any advise in what to do. We do not really mind them but the guests do

Thanks for your e-mail and I must say I am glad you'r poltergeist is friendly enough for you to live with, but do not ignore an poltergeist as they will become more and more active until you are forced to take action. Explain to it that you do not mind it being in your house as long as it leaves the guests alone. that should work a treat, if not, be more firm in telling it that you will get rid of him forthwith. Remember they can sense fear.

Can you help me with a poltergeist that smashes items in my house whenever I turn the vacuum cleaner on. I have started to brush the floor with a brush as I cant afford to lose any more items from my house

Thank you Mrs Waterson for the e-mail, the problem you have can be fixed quickly, but it will cost you the price of another vacuum cleaner, see some electrical equipment interfere with poltergeist and is like a red flag to an bull. So you have a choice of telling it you want it to leave or buy another vacuum cleaner.

This next part is a story I heard from a friend.

He told me of his friends wife that had moved abroad to work and had a friendly but active poltergeist that would do the usual things like spillages that were unexplained and moving things around the apartment plus the old favourite disappearing act then return in 5 minutes of items you need.

Well one morning when Fiona was getting ready to go to work, she could not find her purse and had a fair idea of what had happened, and waited for the reappearance of the said item, she was now running late and was getting annoyed. It was now 9.10am and she should have been at work by 9.00am before the purse turned up where it should have been from the start and where she knew she had left it.

She left late for work at 09.15am on September the 11th 2001 to her place of work; the north tower of the world trade centre.

I can not say that the poltergeist done it to save her life or whether it was just luck, but one thing I do know is that they still have the poltergeist and have no plans to get rid of it.

We have talked about the types of poltergeist you can have and some you would not want and some you would find interesting to have around or in the case of Fiona save your life. I would be very interested of any more stories of this sort.

Has science finally established a paranormal effect?

Rapping sounds from what has been apparently from Poltergeist, which has been described for hundreds of years, is now thought to be real.

It is only now that an interesting pattern has been discovered within the fine detail of the paranormal rapping sounds. No explanation can be found for this pattern at present.

The current edition of the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research (SPR), a learned publication dating back to 1882, carries an article by scientist Dr Barrie Colvin B.Sc., Ph.D., showing instrumental evidence for an inexplicable and objective banging sound detected in recordings made during alleged poltergeist activity.

Whereas raps and knocking sounds produced by ordinary means exhibit a normal acoustic pattern, those recorded in alleged poltergeist cases show quite a different sound signature.

Dr Colvin has analysed recordings of alleged poltergeist knocking obtained from around the world over a 40-year period. The earliest was a recording made by a local physician at Sauchie (Scotland) in 1960 and the most recent was obtained from a poltergeist case at Euston Square, London in 2000.

Whilst the two types of rap sound rather similar, they are actually acoustically different, although the effect is only made apparent when the recordings of raps are submitted to detailed analysis.

The sample involved 10 separate recordings recorded on different recording apparatus.

In each of the recordings, when subjected to acoustic analysis, a particular sound pattern is detected which so far remains unexplained. Attempts to replicate this pattern in ordinary ways have so far been unsuccessful.

The essential difference between these raps and those produced by normal means lies in the details of their sound envelope.

In the case of a normal rap, the sound (which often only lasts a few milliseconds) starts loudly and decays over a period of time. The loudest part of the sound is right at the beginning. In the case of a poltergeist rap, the loudest part is near the beginning of the sound - but not at the very beginning. The rapping sound starts relatively quietly and works up to a maximum before it then starts to decay. This effect has been seen in all ten of the poltergeist cases studied.

The question arises as to how such a sound is generated. There is New evidence which points to the sound arising from within the structure of a material rather than from the surface of it, as would be the case with a normally-produced rapping sound. This phenomenon will be examined further in future investigations of poltergeist activity.

Dr Colvin states: "Ever since my personal involvement in the investigation of a rapping poltergeist at Andover, Hampshire, in which it was absolutely clear that no normal explanation could account for the observed phenomena, I wondered whether the recorded raps were in any way different to those produced by normal methods. It is now clear that they are indeed different".

Among the samples submitted for analysis were recordings made in the famous Enfield poltergeist case in north London during 1977-79

THE THORNTON HEATH POLTERGEIST CASE

Thornton Heath, England

Back in the 70’s a family was tormented by poltergeist , they were woken in the middle of the night by radio that had somehow turned itself on full volume and had tuned itself to a foreign-station. For the next 4 years they were tormented by this apparition.

Christmas 1972 and there was no let up on the activity, one occupant was injured by a ornament being thrust across the room and striking him on the head. There was also reports of the Christmas tree being shaken and other objects being thrown around. The New Year did not improve their situation, with a ghost invading their bedroom and could be heard walking around, although it was only seen by the couples son.

He reported that the ghost was dressed in what he described as “old fashioned clothes” he also reported that the apparition looked at him with an intimidating stare.

This would lead me to say that along with the poltergeist, must be a spirit or maybe more than one of each. With it lasting 4 years it is conceivable that the original Poltergeist had attracted other ghostly being’s to the house.

As time moved on the families fears had grown when doors were being banged and thrown open, even with other witnesses being present.

They asked their local church to bless the house, but that had failed to get rid of all the evil spirits at work in this house. By this stage it is hard to get rid of all supernatural spirits that are at work on this house, they have made it their home and the living is not welcome.

With rumours saying that one of the Poltergeist/ghost or Phantom maybe a farmer by the name of Chatterton that resided in that house in 1750’s.

There is enough evidence to say that a Phantom was at work with the family reporting loud noises that sounded like furniture being moved, but upon inspection nothing had been moved, classic signatures of a phantom at work.

Lucky for the family when they moved the spirits did not follow and the new owners did not report any supernatural phenomena.

THE ENFIELD POLTERGEIST CASE

Enfield, North London 1977

Poltergeist are at work again with the usual mischief on their young victims, Janet and her 10 year old brother Pete. Their mother was a lone parent after her divorce.

Stress in a household is well known to attract Poltergeist activity and this case was no different with the mother being divorced and the children missing their father.

When the children were in their bedroom at night the children would come downstairs and complain to their mother that their bed was “moving about and doing funny things” Keeping up with the tradition of a “joker“ poltergeist they will stop if a adult is about to find out about them, thus keeping the “game” going. The Poltergeist is not disappointed when the mother accused them of making it up.

The Poltergeist then started to act strange (for a Poltergeist that is.) It wanted to be found out and attract as much attention as possible. This is strange as the spirits usually only make themselves known to the family and some others that they feel are of no threat to them. A Psychic or such likes normally need to work hard to get them to reveal themselves, usually the Psychic will normally only feel they are spirits about without any tangible evidence.

This tends to make me think that it was maybe the work of Janet the daughter as the sceptic’s believe. This does not explain how when they ran from the house to a neighbours house, the neighbours could still hear the banging and such like still going on. This is also the case when police where called and they heard the banging and searched the house and found no one there, indeed one police officer signed a report that he himself had seen a chair move across the floor with no apparent means.

As various people witnessed these strange happenings it makes it more and more likely that a Poltergeist was at work, but wither it was the evil or mischief type I can’t say.

When Maurice Gross of the Society for Psychical Research turned up to investigate the case, the phenomenon grow to almost a nightly occurrence, with drawers being pulled out, lego bricks getting thrown along with marbles that all seemed hot to touch afterwards. What was more disturbing is the fact that there was small fires started and always put back out almost immediately. Mr Grosse spent two years investigating this case and I am sure that their must have been something in this case for this amount of time spent on it.

Janet the 11 year old at the time started to act as if she had been possessed, talking in a deep voice. This and other phenomenon was recorded and taped at the time, just adding to the complex case.

THE DANNY POLTERGEIST CASE

In 1998,

Jane Fishman, a reporter for the Savannah Morning News, began a series of articles about a possibly haunted antique bed in the home of Al Cobb of Savannah, Georgia. Mr Cobb bought the vintage bed at an auction as a gift for his 14-year-old son.

A few days after being given the gift, he told his father that he was not comfortable with the bed as he could feel is if someone was leaning on his pillow and also could feel a cold breeze on his neck. It was also reported that he was feeling sick and a family picture was knocked over and again the next night.

When the 14 year old went back to his room after breakfast, laying on the bed was some kids toys. He then proceeded to leave paper and crayons and asked if anyone was there, and promptly left the room. On his return with other members of his family, the paper had written on it in child like writing Danny 7.

When left on his own Al Cobb continued to communicate with the ghost by the same means. It is reported that the mother of Danny had died in that bed in the late 1890’s and was adverse to the fact of anyone else sleeping in his mother’s bed.

Reports of Poltergeist activity; furniture being move, chairs being pushed over etc. Danny was not the only supernatural person there, as contact was made with other spirits, Jill, Gracie and uncle Sam.

Researchers say that the bed was not the haunted item, it was the house itself and with particular attention to the wall that the bed was placed against. It was found to have electromagnetic energy that had brought out the boys psychic ability.

Rosenheim, Germany (1967)

A law firm in Rosenheim, Germany, became well known, not just for law, but also for poltergeist activity.

They had problems with disruptions in their telephone and electricity supplies, pictures being moved and moving lamps.

It was investigated by two physicists, police and reporters, that where keen to dispel any validity of any supernatural occurrences. In their keen investigation they unwittingly made this case the most validated in history. A film capturing the movement of a lamp was also a first to capture a poltergeist at work.

Their troubles stopped when an employee by the name of Annemarie Schneider left to work somewhere else, as it was thought that she was the centre of the paranormal phenomenon.

The work done by Dr. Fredbert Karger and Max Planck proved 100% that the disturbances could not be explained by physics. There was no more reports of activity after Annemarie left.

Lithobolia (1698)

Two copies of a pamphlet that records poltergeist activity in a tavern of George and Alice Walton in 1682 (lithobolia or the stone-throwing devil) are kept in British Museum.

The Waltons' tavern was located in New Castle, New Hampshire, then known as the Great Island. Lithobolia was written by “R.C.,” one Richard Chamberlain, the secretary of the colony of New Hampshire. In 1666 Chamberlain was boarding at the Walton tavern and witnessed the attack. The pamphlet was later printed in London by Chamberlain

Lithobolia", or stone throwing Devil. Being an Exact and True account (by way of Journal) of the various actions of infernal Spirits or (Devils Incarnate) Witches or both: and the great Disturbance and Amazement they gave to George Walton's family at a place called Great Island in the county of New Hampshire in New England, chiefly in throwing about (by an Invisible hand) Stones, Bricks, and Brick-Bats of all sizes, with several other things, as Hammers, Mauls, Iron-Crows, Spits, and other Utensils, as came into their Hellish minds, and this for space of a quarter of a year."
